FreeNAS® Mini/Mini Plus
Compact data storage with simple management, at an affordable price.
FreeNAS® Mini Storage Appliance
Compact and Efficient, the FreeNAS® Mini offers convenience, availability, and peace of mind for your critical data - and helps support the FreeNAS project! The FreeNAS® Mini Plus adds even more powerful hardware in the same footprint, along with enhanced encryption capabilities.
Network Attached Storage allows many servers or clients to access the same data store simultaneously through a file based protocol. For a home office or small business, this means that everyone can work from the same pool of data simultaneously. The Web Interface makes management simple, and iXsystems Pro Services are available to assist with setup and other support tasks.

The FreeNAS® software used by all FreeNAS® products is under continuous development by a community of passionate and dedicated experts. This means that when it's time to upgrade software, the upgrade is free, and the authors are users themselves. There is open dialog at all times on the FreeNAS® website and forums about where the project is headed, and what features are important to users. This is a stark contrast to commercial alternatives, which not only cost money, but often consider very little user feedback in their development.
Web User Interface
FreeNAS® 8 features a complete web user interface. No mess, no fuss – your server is easily controlled from any web-enabled device. Configuration is straightforward and simple, and you can make your changes on the fly.
Command Line Interface
FreeNAS® 8 is based on FreeBSD 8.x, and will update and keep current with the FreeBSD project. So if you're a savvy user, and prefer to use the command line, no problem! ssh in, and control your FreeNAS® device from the custom CLI.
ZFS - Zettabyte File System
One of FreeNAS® 8's most important features is full support for the ZFS filesystem. ZFS includes data integrity protection, practically unlimited size caps, cloneable snapshots, automatic repair, RAID-Z, and more. ZFS is fully open-source, and is a great way to store and manage your important files.
ZFS Disk Encryption
FreeNAS offers the only open-source ZFS disk encryption solution. With FreeNAS disk encryption, encrypted volumes can only be read by FreeNAS systems in possession of the master key for that volume. For additional security, administrators may add a passphrase and initialize a volume with random data. On typical hardware, disk encryption can incur a 35% performance penalty, but the Encryption Capable processor in the FreeNAS® Mini Plus makes encrypted volumes perform just as well as normal ones.
Snapshots
Snapshots protect your system from life's little accidents. If your data is somehow lost, FreeNAS® can restore from a snapshot. With the periodic snapshots feature, you can worry less about data loss, and use your system stress free.
Backup and Restore
Remote Replication allows you to copy a snapshot to an off-site server. The snapshots may then be sent back to restore an appliance after data loss, or activated in place on the remote server to recover older versions of individual files.
